HISTORIC RENOVATION GRANT PROGRAM

The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) announced that the Historic Renovation Grant Program (HRGP), which is designed to preserve and rehabilitate historic properties to further incentivize downtown economic development, is open to all communities as of December 1, 2017.  Applications will be accepted until all funding has been awarded.

“It is vital we preserve Indiana’s historical properties throughout the state, and I am excited that local communities have the opportunity to revitalize their downtowns, while maintaining the beauty of our state” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. “As the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, my office oversees OCRA and I am looking forward to seeing the inspiring outcomes these grants will help achieve.”

“We are pleased to announce that the Historic Renovation Grant Program will now become a rolling application process,” said OCRA Executive Director Jodi Golden. “and any eligible historic commercial structure in Indiana is encouraged to apply.”

During the 2017 legislative session, the Indiana General Assembly approved legislation allocating over $1 million in grant funding for the program, to be administered by OCRA. Applications for the HRGP, previously known as the Historic Tax Credit Program, will be reviewed by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Historic Preservation and Archeology (DHPA) to ensure submissions meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.

Applicants with an eligible historic commercial structure have the opportunity to apply for project funding between $10,000 and $100,000 at a maximum request of 35% of the total eligible project cost. Eligible applicants include: individual, partnership, firm, association, joint venture, limited liability company, corporation or non-profit affordable housing organization.

Interested property owners, who meet established eligibility requirements, must submit an application and all supporting documentation to the OCRA office.
